Moc Bai International Border Gate: Strategic Location & Economic Potential of Tay Ninh

The Largest Southern Trade Gateway: Location and Updates Post-Administrative Merger

Moc Bai International Border Gate is not only a vital border point but also a renowned economic and tourism hub in the "New Tay Ninh." Its position and development potential have been strongly consolidated following the administrative merger in July 2025. Below is the most comprehensive and updated information:

Official Location of Moc Bai Border Gate

Following the establishment of the New Tay Ninh Province (merging the former Tay Ninh and Long An provinces), Moc Bai Border Gate retains its original geographical position, with the address updated according to new regulations: Ben Cau Ward, Tay Ninh Province (Former address: Loi Thuan Commune, Ben Cau District, Tay Ninh Province - pre-merger). It is situated in the western part of the New Tay Ninh Province, adjacent to the Vietnam-Cambodia border.

The gate directly borders the Bavet International Border Gate in Svay Rieng Province, Cambodia. This is a strategic location on the Trans-Asian Highway, just 70km from Ho Chi Minh City center and 170km from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, acting as a crucial trade bridge between the two nations and within the ASEAN bloc.

Basic Operational Information Update for 2026

  • Operating Hours: The gate is open from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily, fully meeting the needs of cargo clearance and immigration for tourists and border residents.

  • Visit Policy: Domestic and international tourists can visit the Vietnamese border area free of charge (valid identification documents required). For those wishing to enter Cambodia, full passport and visa procedures must be completed as per current regulations.

  • Trade Performance: On average, there are 700 - 800 vehicle crossings per day, peaking at 1,000. Passenger volume maintains at 6,000 - 8,000 people/day. Notably, the import-export turnover for the first half of 2025 reached approximately $600 million, affirming its position as the largest international land border gate in Southern Vietnam.

Development Potential Post-Administrative Merger

After the formation of the New Tay Ninh Province, Moc Bai has been identified as the primary economic growth engine, with numerous priority investment policies and development plans through 2045:

  • Border Economic Zone Expansion Planning: The Government has approved the Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone planning for the period up to 2030 with a scale of 222.73 hectares (excluding security and defense land). This includes a 182ha logistics center, a 27ha expanded dry port, a 908ha multi-industry industrial park, and 1,767ha of urban residential areas. By 2045, the industrial park will expand to 3,194ha to meet investment demand, creating thousands of jobs for the local workforce.

  • Connectivity Infrastructure Driving Growth: The Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway project is being accelerated for completion. With a 4-lane design and a maximum speed of 120km/h, it will shorten travel time from HCMC center to the border gate to just over 40 minutes, completely relieving the currently overloaded National Highway 22. This project will transform Moc Bai into an international logistics hub, attracting multinational corporations to open distribution centers and factories.

  • Attractive Tax Incentives for Investment: As before, goods imported from abroad into Moc Bai's industrial and commercial zones are exempt from import tax and VAT; goods exported abroad also enjoy corresponding tax exemption policies. Tourists can still purchase duty-free goods at the gate with a limit of 500,000 VND/person/day (excluding specific limits for alcohol, beer, and tobacco).
