Ho Chi Minh City has officially approved the detailed plan for expanding National Highway 22 (NH22), a key gateway route to the Northwest region. The project includes widening the highway to 60 meters with 10 traffic lanes and constructing 7 new overpasses at major intersections. Construction is expected to begin in Q3 2026 and finish in 2028.
Comprehensive Expansion Plan
Upon completion, National Highway 22 will feature:
4 central lanes with a design speed of 80 km/h
6 side lanes allowing 60 km/h traffic
7 overpasses at critical intersections, including:
Nguyễn Ảnh Thủ; Nguyễn Thị Sóc – Nhà Vuông; Lê Thị Hà; Trần Văn Mười – Bà Triệu; Lý Thường Kiệt – Nguyễn Văn Bứa; Nguyễn Thị Nuôi; and Dương Công Khi – Lê Lợi.
The total investment is estimated at VND 10,424 billion.

Alleviating Congestion at a Key Gateway
National Highway 22 connects HCMC with Tây Ninh and the Mộc Bài International Border Gate. The current 36–40 m road width and mixed traffic lanes have led to persistent congestion and frequent accidents. The expansion and construction of grade-separated intersections will significantly improve travel conditions.
Strengthening Regional Connectivity
The upgraded NH22 will seamlessly connect with major transport corridors such as Ring Road 3, Ring Road 4, and future expressways heading northwest—forming a modern regional logistics network.

The project will create strong growth momentum for industrial zones, logistics hubs, residential developments, and commercial areas along the entire NH22 corridor.

Land clearance: Over 1,300 households will be affected; compensation and resettlement must be handled quickly and transparently.
Infrastructure synchronization: Drainage, lighting, and pedestrian safety systems must be upgraded alongside road construction.
Quality and timeline control: Strict supervision is required to ensure safety, durability, and timely delivery.
